Why Canada

More straightforward than most UK OTs expect

Canada has a genuine shortage of occupational therapists, a high quality of life and a health system that values clinical expertise.

Growing demandCommunity and pediatric OT roles are expanding across BC and Alberta, and employers compete for good clinicians.
Pay that reflects the workCompetitive salaries and benefits, relocation support, and a lower cost of living outside the major cities.
Outdoors, all yearSki hills, trails and lakes are close enough for a Tuesday evening, not just a holiday.
Clear pathwaysUK citizens can use the IEC Working Holiday, employer-supported work permits and provincial routes to permanent residency.
A familiar way of workingEnglish-speaking, client-centred practice built on models you already know, including the COPM.
Closer than you thinkDirect flights to London from Vancouver and Calgary take around nine to ten hours.

The work

Time to do therapy properly

CTC is a community rehabilitation company. Our OTs help clients regain function and independence at home, in the community and, where possible, at work.

Your caseload, your diaryYou manage your own caseload and schedule, with time to assess thoroughly, follow clients through and see the difference you make.
Community and clinicAdults at home and in the community (neuro, MSK, return to work, home health), or children and families in our pediatric clinic.
Varied, funded referralsWork comes from WorkSafeBC, ICBC, Canada Life and other funders, so no two weeks look the same.
Growth from week oneUnlimited professional development, and senior mentorship from your first week through our GROW program.

Getting here

Your move, step by step

From your first enquiry to your first client visit, CTC walks with you. Your SEAS and registration fees are reimbursed once you are working with us in Canada.

1. Talk to us

A no-pressure conversation about your experience, where you would like to live and your timing, with an honest view of how long the move takes.

2. Sort your visa

We connect you with a registered immigration consultant who matches you to the right route: IEC Working Holiday, an employer-supported work permit or permanent residency.

3. Get registered

Complete SEAS through ACOTRO, then register with the BC or Alberta college. BC's provisional licensure lets you practise under supervision before the national exam.

4. Get ready to fly

A pre-arrival briefing on climate, cost of living, housing, the health system and what a working week really looks like.

5. Land and settle

A car for your first month, help finding a home through our local contacts, and someone on hand for every small question.

6. Your first weeks

Help with your bank account, Social Insurance Number and health card, then introductions to the team and local outdoor groups.

Ski. Hike. Paddle. Ride.

World-class ski resorts, mountain trails and lakes are on your doorstep, not a long drive away. Think Kelowna, Fernie, Rossland and the Kootenay backcountry.

Communities that feel human

BC's towns and cities have everything you need and still feel like communities. Summers are long and warm.

A package that works

Competitive salary, flexible scheduling, relocation support and admin backup, built around your move.

Questions

What UK OTs ask us first

How long does registration take?

Organized applicants typically complete the process in around 18 months. In BC you can apply for provisional licensure and start practising under supervision before you sit the national exam.

Which visa will I need?

It depends on your age, plans and timeline. Our registered immigration consultant will match you to the right route, whether that's the IEC Working Holiday, an employer-supported work permit or permanent residency.

Do I need to drive?

Yes. Community OT in BC means travelling to clients, so a full driving licence is essential. We provide a car for your first month while you settle in.

Do I need to be registered before I apply?

No. Talk to us first. We will help you plan registration, your visa and your move together, so the timing works.

Every move is different

Ready for a conversation?

No forms. No commitment. Tell us about your plans and we will help you make one that works.

Ready to refer? It takes two minutes.
