Maia completed her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degree at the University of Alberta. She left the home she was born and raised in the Okanagan to complete her Bachelor of Science at Simon Fraser University, where she majored in Behavioural Neuroscience. Her admiration for Occupational Therapy stemmed from the profession's knack for merging the arts and sciences. She has experience working in the community and in in-patient settings with folks experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, and substance-use disorders. She has also practiced in settings alongside folks looking to re-initiate employment following repetitive strain and soft tissue injuries.
